I gave away my receivables - and made more money too - Choose A Receivable Loan C0mpany Instead Of A Typical Bank Financing

Exactly how to Enhance Cash Flow Without Borrowing -Cash Money flow is among the primary reasons businesses fail.

At one time or another, every company, even successful ones, have experienced poor money flow.

Money flow does not have to be an issue any more. Do not be fooled -- banks are not the only locations you can get funding. Other solutions are offered and you do not have to borrow money. What is truck factoring ? One solution is called truck factoring. Truck Factoring is the process of selling accounts receivable to an investor rather than waiting to gather the cash from the customer. Oh, the Irony- Truck factoring has a paradoxical difference: It is the monetary foundation of many of America's most successful companies. Why is this paradoxical ? Since receivable financing is not taught in business colleges, is rarely mentioned in company strategies and is relatively unknown to bulk of most of American business people.

Yet it is a financial procedure that releases up billions of dollars every year, enabling thousands of companies to grow and succeed. Factoring has been around for countless years. Staffing Factoring Businesses are financiers who pay cash for the right to get the future payments on your invoices. An unpaid receivable or invoice has value. It is a financial obligation your customer has to pay in the near future. Factoring Principals--Although factoring offers solely with business-to-business transactions, a big portion of the retail business utilizes a factoring principal. MasterCard, Visa, and American Express all use a form of factoring in their retail transactions. Using the purest definition of the word, these big customer finance companies are truly simply big Receivable Financing Businesses of consumer paper. Think about it: You make a purchase at Sears and charge it to your MasterCard. The store makes money practically immediately, although you do not make payment until you are ready.

For this service, the charge card company charges Sears a fee (typical common normal fees vary from two to four percent of the sale). The Advantages Truck Factoring can provide numerous benefits to cash-hungry companies. Instead of waiting 30, 60, 90 days or longer for payment on an item that has already been delivered, a company can factor (sell) its receivables for cash at a small price cut off the dollar value of the invoice. Payroll, advertising efforts, and working capital are simply a few of the business needs that can be met with instant  cash.

Invoice Factoring provides the ways for a producer to renew stock and make even more products to sell: There is no longer a need to wait for earlier sales to be paid. Receivable Loan Financing is not just a cash management tool for manufacturers: Almost any type business can take advantage of Receivable Financing. Generally, a company that extends credit will have 10 to 20 percent of its yearly sales bound in accounts receivable at any given time. Think for a minute about exactly how much is bound in 60 days' worth of invoices: You can not pay the power expense or this week s payroll with a customer s invoice, but you can sell that invoice for the money to meet those obligations. Using truck factoring companies is a fast and easy procedure. The factoring company purchases the invoice at a price cut, usually a couple of percentage points less than the face value of the invoice.

"

Hill Truck and Haul has been in business since the mid 1980s. They've delivered goods for nearly every major industry in the nation and for 20 plus years, business was booming as they've traversed the country in all weather for all clients. During the heady times from 2002 to 2007, Hill was a top rated accounts receivable mastermind of the trucking industry. Very few customers were behind on their bills, and those customers who were late turned in their overdue payments within an acceptable time frame. Cash was flowing and times were good for all.It was just one year later, in 2008, when the economy in the United States took a sharp decline, and both large and small businesses started to notice the squeeze on their pocketbooks: everyone had suddenly gone silent. Business slowed down. And worse yet, Hill had noticed during the early part of 2008 that though the bulk of their clients were always on time with payments, the few late-bloomers there were, had seemingly started to spread this illness. Spring changed to summer, summer changed to fall, and the CEO of Hill, Eric Simpson, was beginning to feel very uncomfortable indeed whenever he looked at their weekly Accounts Receivable reports. The numbers of clients who owed him back debt were growing. He had gone to his administrators and asked them what the problem had been. Were they doing things different, or wrong, when it came to collecting overdue accounts? When checking his bookkeeper's records this was definitely not the case. Perhaps he was losing his customers to his competitor, who seemed to offer very low prices with no guarantee of quality or performance, and these clients who were in debt to his company had possibly disappeared leaving him stranded. They could not afford to pay him their debt, but they could afford a lesser service, maybe. So he did the necessary research and, after discussions with friends in the same field, he realised that no, his customers hadn't gone anywhere else. They had just gone home. The situation looked dire to Eric Simpson. He had employees to pay, goods to ship, trucks to maintain and overhead that was almost unbearable when compared against the lack of funds that were coming in. At night he would speak to his wife Anna and shake his head in frustration.

""I have a bad feeling, Lin,"" he'd sadly say to his wife.""What could you do differently?"" she would say.Eric would stare off into the distance, and then slowly close his eyes. In his mind he could clearly see the fleet of trucks purchased over the many years. He could see them on the road, delivering good to all his loyal customers. But then a haze would cover his trucks and his vast fleet would vanish to leave just a few. What could cause this ultimate death spiral of business?""I know what it is,"" Eric said. ""For way too long I've been relying solely on profits received from invoices. For too long I've been allowing our clients to let their accounts become overdue."" All Anna could do was hold his hand and look at him tenderly. 'We know it is a difficult economy at the moment - perhaps it will take a while for people to get on top of their bills'.""Anna was trying so hard to support her husband in these worrying times, while Eric was weighed down with the worry of how he was going to handle this situation he found himself in.The following day Eric walked into his office with a spring in his step, determined to call each and every client who owed money to Hill Truck & Haul. Now, it wasn't the most efficient way to spend a day as a chief executive, what he really needed to be doing was to be overseeing all of the other intricacies of shipment and delivery and reaching out to prospective clients or retraining his sales team to do the same. But, he felt like he was doing something proactive to help his business, even though he had staff on salary to do just that thing. Wasting money, wasting time - even with the best of intentions, Eric knew that he was in trouble.

After a half day of contacting debtors in vain - they dodged his calls or promised to call back at worst or made minimal interest-only payments at best - he was about to throw in the towel when his secretary Ericaerley knocked at his door.

""Can I have a word with you Eric?"" she queried, standing in the doorway.

""Of course Erica, please come in."" Eric leaned back in his chair and looked expectantly at Ericaerely.""Well, I did a little searching this afternoon and tried to figure out a way out of this mess Eric."" She opened up a folder she had been carrying and pulled out a small wad of papers, placing them on the desk in front of him.""Have you ever heard the word factoring?"" she asked.""It does sound vaguely familiar. What is factoring""? he asked.""Well,"" she began, ""Its actually quite simple really.

Basically, factoring invoices means that we would get paid immediately for the loads we haul.""Eric interrupted ""Immediately?"".""Immediately, yes"" she added, ""In a nutshell, it is pretty easy. We start by having a professional account manager review our figures and help us set up a company profile. That profile will also include investigating our accounts receivable aging reports, our existing customer credit limits and so on. In addition, factoring will assist in determining our customers' creditworthiness, independent from their credit relationship with our company. It provides a very broad view.""I see, Eric said. And then what?""Following the completion of their review and once we have been approved for a contract with the factoring company, then we sit down to negotiate conditions and terms. Theres a lot of flexibility depending on the business volume and credit histories. The company will advise us the cost to purchase factoring for our company's accounts receivable. Once we arrive at a mutual agreement, the funding begins.Eric leaned forward and reviewed the paperwork closely.""I do not know, Erica - it just sounds too good to be true"", Eric said quietly.""Now, now, I know, I thought the same thing. But really, they have guaranteed us experts that do all the legwork, which would free us up here to focus on our clients in good standing and marketing, all that good stuff. And they're flexible Eric,"" she drew a circle around a paragraph on the document before him.""Just how flexible?"" asked Eric.""It seems that they personalize their factoring charges so that the amount they're prepared to work with is commensurate with our client's debt and our needs. It only takes 2 to 4 days for this to be figured out. ""That sounds pretty good, seeing as we tapped ourselves out with bank loans last year to repair the fleet and money sure is tight. We need to keep business rolling as normal and every day were going unpaid, were closer to facing some serious problems in both the short and long term,"" Eric said.Eric took in a long slow breath, then looked at his secretary with something like hope in his eyes.""Precisely. I think this might just be a way out of the trouble we are in with these folks who owe us money.""Eric took a moment to think about this solution, and agreed with his secretary. The customers who were in debt to Hill Truck & Haul were professional resources of the company, but they were also long-standing friends. They did not want to throw away these relationships because they were having trouble paying their bills now. Eric knew only too well that the whole economy was floundering, and that it was not going to change overnight. That unknown amount of time could create a disaster situation for both of them if he wasn't careful in how these debtors were handled. He did not want to lose business but he also did not want to lose any more money.""Let me go over this tonight Erica, and thankyou."" Erica nodded, satisfied with her work, and she left the office feeling quite content in the knowledge that she had helped Eric keep the shirt on his back, and possibly hers too.Eric stayed at his desk for a long time, looking over the details they hadn't discussed during their meeting. What other issues could freight factoring help Hill with? With his pencil gliding down the sheet he noticed that the factoring company could help fray the cost of fuel with fuel discount cards and fuel advances. In fact, Hill could receive up to fifty-percent cash advances upon load pick-ups. As a man who hated binding contracts with no room to breathe, he was pleased to see that this factoring company would not make him sign a long term contract, would not make him pay any sign up fees and there was no minimum volume required.""Well, I'll have to tell Elmer about this,"" Eric muttered to himself. His son-in-law Elmer had liked the idea of Hill so much and revered his father in law for having such business acumen that only two years before, he had gathered the venture capital to begin his own transportation service company. Eric knew then what struggles Elmer would face but he encouraged him nonetheless. With the faltering economy, if a big fish like Hill was hurting, a little guy like Elmer was about to catch his death. Perhaps the antidote to these problems was in freight factoring, and they were about to find out.A few months later after going through the entire application process and having the experts review his accounts receivable, credit history and statements, Eric found himself beginning to dig his way out of the hole his delinquent account holders had created for him. They adopted reasonable factoring purchase contracts and stopped wasting their own precious time trying to collect debts. They used that time to refocus their efforts in being competitive in new territories. Eric recalled those dismal months when he wasn't aware of freight factoring, and he shuddered at those memories. Had he missed the boat on this one, he probably wouldn't be in business today.

More Trucking Factoring Companies Story Articles

The Future of a Trucking Company, and Factoring The phone was ringing on his desk, and Kevin Lewis just sat there letting it ring. His morning coffee cooled and his cigarette smoked away in the tray: Kevin is thinking, and pondering the biggest decision he's ever had to make for his trucking business. Lewis Trucking Company had reached a turning point and he now had to make a decision as to whether he should sign up with a factoring company, and indeed if this would be a good or regrettable decision for his business.

More than forty years ago Kevin's father had started this business working as an owner-operator and eventually growing Lewis Trucking Company into a fifteen trailer fleet. There had been some hard times when it seemed everything was going to go under and even Kevins mother strapped herself into a cab to make hauls. His father had lived long enough to witness the price of hires drop during the recession and watch the eruption of fuel prices afterwards. Now the company was solely in Kevins hands and he wanted to live to see it in better shape for his sons.

To move Lewis Trucking Company ahead into the future, he needed a steady cash flow but there was just not enough money to go around. His employees needed to be paid. They had families and household bills too. Some of the refrigerated trailers were in need of repairs and he felt to stay competitive it was also a good idea to invest in specialized haulers to be ready for the constant requests he was getting for loads of new energy and agriculture equipment. Every time he had to turn down a request, Lewis Trucking looked weak in a very strong market.

His father would have told him to wait and to take his time adding on new technology. Kevin allowed himself a good hard chuckle. His father had been against placing GPS units in the cabs. He would say, Why do you need the voice of some woman to tell you to get off at an exit that has been the same exit that has been there for years? Also his father had the habit of teasing all the drivers he caught switching into automatic even though driving in automatic was much more efficient though not manly in his fathers eyes. He knew his father's days were long gone and new technology was very important for the business, like having Qualcomm to reduce communication time for bills of lading.

Kevin believed a successful man is always thinking of his next step. How would he take Lewis Trucking to the next level? And how would he be able to afford it? Funding was all tied up in the mortgage for the office and garage and in the fuel bills. Thankfully he'd just finished paying off the bank loan for the installation of satellite radio in the trucks.

But was factoring the answer? If he was being honest, he did not really understand how it all worked. It sounded like a ninth grade math problem and he wondered how this would fit into the trucking business. Factoring companies buy your invoices and manage your accounts receivable for a certain percentage of the invoiced amount. In return, the factoring company pays the trucking business straight away, providing immediate cash flow for the business to pay staff, purchase fuel, and do any repairs or maintenance. Without the assistance of factoring, you have to wait for customers to send you the payment which is often 30 days late. In those 30 days, a trucking company cant pay its bills and employees in invoices.

Kevin had to really consider what his next step was going to be. He had heard of companies charging for same day money transfers, advancing a percentage of the money owed to your business, while the rest is held in a private account if the bill wasn't paid within sixty or more days. Worse still, if the customer defaulted on payment, the factoring company takes it out of the money supposedly coming to you! He'd even heard about some companies putting you onto a sliding percentage scale regardless of any previously signed contracts for possibly 3% or 7%, and there you are now with 10% coming as a charge to you out of the freight bill. His friend Ronnie who had a trucking business in Missouri, was run nearly into the ground by a factoring company that charged him the full freight bill on top of the factoring fees. Well, what was the point of going to a factoring company if there was shady business like that going on?

However, it all turned out to be very simple. When he called the factoring companies he discovered they were very open about their business practices, and very friendly and helpful. Their customer service actually knew things about their company and spoke in nice clear English so he could understand what was being explained. He was quite happy to sign an exclusive contract. In fact, he was quite pleased with the idea of a long-term contract because he knew this was a one-off and he would not have to keep going back and forth to different companies. Nobody charged him for credit checks and they offered him a fuel advance on the pick-up of the load. In fact there were a few companies who offered him a non-recourse factoring program, and this was exactly what he had been hoping for. He was more than happy with the figures he was offered in percentage terms on the freight bills. It sounded like a great scheme to him.

For Kevin it was quite a relief to be dealing with the factoring company. They were more personable than those loan managers at the bank. He was relieved to note that the factoring companies understood the trucking business and discussed business with him like a respected client, not like someone looking for a handout. The factoring companies didnt worry over his credit and the debt troubles his father had had in the past of the company. All the factoring company was interest in was the credit of his customers and on their reliability: this worked great for Kevin because he and his father had created a very strong and loyal list of clientele over the years. He knew immediately that there would not be any problems when they were contacted by the factoring company regarding their invoices. His clients would not have any problems, nor would they think poorly of Lewis Trucking, because the factoring companies handle themselves in such a polite and professional manner, similar to the way his father had managed the business in the past.

Kevin stepped out of his office to let his secretary know to expect the arrival of the factoring contract shortly. There was a new bounce is his step now: he knew instinctively that this new step would raise the future of his company to a new and higher level, and that all the stress from the past could now be put behind him. He suddenly realized that, with this new cash flow, he could actually expand Lewis Trucking Company and who knows, move into Canada, which had always been his dream. He was a happy man again knowing that he had just made a decision which would guarantee the success of his business and his sons would not be inheriting a financial mess.

Trucking Factoring  Articles

"

So It is not a loan? asked Danny Stevens, reclining back into his chair and crossing his legs. The woman who sat across the desk smiled and shook her head. Not quite, she stated.Danny Stevens owned a small trucking company, and his business had recently fallen on difficult times. Certainly the trucking business can be an extremely profitable venture, and for many years it had been that way for Jordan. His company was called Chambers Trucking, named after both of his grandfathers, Howard and Roland. They had both been hardworking men, and had done a lot to make Danny the same.Disaster had struck half a year ago, when two trucks in Jordans fifteen truck fleet went down. One was a roll-over and ended up in the trucking graveyard: the other was involved in a serious and costly accident. The financial security of Jordan's company relied on his full fleet on fifteen being on the road, and missing two trucks was just devastating . In addition, he just did not have the available cash to buy a new truck, plus repair the other one.A big problem a lot of trucking companies came across was how bills were paid in the industry. Waiting a month or longer for bills to be paid was quite normal. In the long run, this wasnt an issue, but if problems arose, you could find yourself in trouble.Danny was an excellent business man, and he certainly hadn't done anything wrong. Things had happened that he could not have predicted, and he had to figure out a way to keep his business from hurting, or even going under. And that's why he found himself across the desk from this woman. Danny knew she was employed by a Factoring company and that her name was Hilda. He had accidentally come across her company one night when he was working late, searching the internet to see if there was some solution to his financial dilemma.Hilda explained. Its not a loan, we purchase your accounts receivable. we are not giving you finance to be repaid later: we are purchasing something from you, and when you can you can buy it back. That way were protected from a complete loss, but youre protected from the outrageous fees you would find in a loan from the bank.Danny nodded. It sounded perfect - perhaps too good?.Hilda laughed. You look like you dont believe me, she chuckled. No, I do, I just think it sounds a bit too good to be true. I thought I was going to lose my company.Hilda smiled, agreeing. We get that a lot. Listen, Id hate to see you lose your company. You work hard, youve put everything you can into it. We all need help sometimes. That's why we do what we do.""In any case, thank you for coming to see me.""Its right down the road, usually we do it all online, but I didnt mind swinging on by today, said Hilda with a smile. Lets see what we can do to help you.And right there and then they created a business profile. Danny completed the form, with Hilda offering advice as needed.

The profile filled Hilda and her company in on Jordans company, and would help them determine if he was suitable for factoring. In truth, not all companies were. Some businesses are beyond the help of a Factoring company, while other businesses weren't in enough financial stress to warrant it. Listening as Danny filled out his form, Hilda was pretty sure he was a perfect candidate for factoring. When the form was done Hilda took it and slid it into her briefcase. Standing up, she reached over the desk and shook Jordan's hand. He stood before they shook as well, and then smiled. Danny walked Hilda to the door where they said 'Goodbye', then he went back into his office. His employees were there, seven who worked in the office, and as he sat behind his desk once more he heard the familiar clack of fingers on keyboards, the electronic whine of the copy machine. He shut his eyes. He felt so drained: he had been flailing helplessly for so long, he just knew his business was going to collapse and probably take him with it. Talking to Hilda though, learning about factoring, it felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He relaxed into his chair, running his hand through his thick black hair with its telling streaks of grey. All those long, sleepless nights. The sudden panic attacks, not matter where he was. Already he could feel all the stress start to drain away. He wasnt out of the woods yet, there was still a lot of work to be done, but he could feel it. He was still here; he knew this was the right path for him, and he felt proud that he had taken the appropriate steps to sort out his problems.Danny couldnt help but think back to when he had first started the business. At twenty-two and straight out of school he had opened a restaurant. It had been successful. Offering home cooking in his own hometown, his business had really prospered. But he had gotten bored. His passion didnt lie with the food industry. He thought about it for a long time, then decided it was time to sell his restaurant. He took six months off, and during that time he decided to create Chambers Trucking. And that's exactly what he did. For the second time in his short life he created a company from the ground up. The business had been an instant success. And then the trucks went down, and his success looked to be in flux. He was nearing fifty. He didnt think he had it in him, to save this company. But giving up wasn't part of his personality either.

The idea of cutting his losses, shutting down, laying off his workers, it actually made him sick some nights. He didnt know how to say quit. And now, because of factoring, he was sure he wouldnt have to. Danny opened his eyes, sat forward, turned his computer on. He had things to do. He could be thankful later, for now, it was time to work.

Why Trucking Corporations Use Factoring Firms.

Traditional Bank Loans

Finance through a bank loan is the normal, or traditional, way of financing your business. These loans can be a life-saver, but they're not always available to every business. As an example, a newly formed business may not have the required assets to qualify for a bank loan, and even if they did, it is usual practise for a bank to use the business itself as collateral. This means that if you default on your loan payment you could lose your entire business. In addition, while you apply for a certain loan amount, that is all the financing you are entitled to. Of course, once that loan has been re-paid, you can always re-apply for another loan.

What Are Trucking Factoring Companies?

Trucking Factoring companies do not give loans, and the money you get from the Trucking Factoring company does not put you in debt. Rather the financing you receive from a Trucking Factoring company is based on money your business has already earned, but have not yet received. Trucking Factoring companies actually purchase your accounts receivable or at least part of them for a percentage of their total worth, Normally around 80%-95%. The amount of money you can receive is based on the amount of money you have earned and the accounts receivable you are willing to sell. Once a Trucking Factoring account has been created for you, it will continue for as long as you need it, with the money available continuing to grow as your business grows, and providing cash as you require it.

What Are The Benefits Of A Trucking Factoring Company Versus A Traditional Bank Loan?

Not every business can benefit from Trucking Factoring account financing because you have to have a business with accounts receivable, however there are many benefits for those who can access this type of finance.

1. There is no debt. Since the Trucking Factoring company actually buys your accounts receivable you do not actually incur debt like you do with a bank loan. This has many benefits including the fact, that this type of financing will not affect either your business credit rating or your personal credit rating. Should the unforeseeable happen and your business fails, you will not have to worry about anyone coming after your personal as well as your business assets to pay off a loan. With a bank loan, the debt goes onto your credit report, and even one late payment can adversely affect your businesses credit, and even the ability to get insurance and may even reflect upon your personal credit rating.

2. There's no collateral required. Another benefit of using a Trucking Factoring company instead of a traditional loan is that you are not required to provide collateral to the Trucking Factoring company in order to secure financing, because the company buys the accounts receivables; not loans you money based on them. Plus, the state of your credit rating is not an issue; however the Trucking Factoring company will run a credit check on your clients whose accounts receivable are being offered for financing. This means that it is easier for new businesses to access the finance they need through a Trucking Factoring company, providing their accounts receivable are in good order. A bank may believe you haven't been in business long enough to be able to cover this risk.

3. Receive Your Money Faster. Using a Trucking Factoring company means that you'll get the finance quicker. The money will normally be in your account within 24 hours, once the Trucking Factoring company is confident that your customers accounts are likely to be paid. Borrowing from a bank begins with vast amounts of paperwork, the loan must be underwritten, and this can take ages before you're notified if the loan has been approved.

4.You receive interest up-front. With a bank loan interest continues to build, and this has to be paid the whole time you have a business loan; however with a Trucking Factoring company there is no interest - they take it right off the top by deducting it from the total amount of receivable accounts. So you do not have to worry about monthly loan repayments, and you do not have to worry about the amount of interest payable, because all the money in the account is yours to spend.

As you can see, there are several benefits that makes considering financing through a Trucking Factoring company over a traditional bank worthwhile. In addition, there are other benefits that a Trucking Factoring company can offer you, outside the scope of a bank. The main benefit is that once you've sold your accounts receivable to the Trucking Factoring company, you are free from having to collect money owed by your customers. The Trucking Factoring company takes over that chore, since it is now their money to collect. Trucking Factoring companies are very good at collecting these debts, saving you the time and effort that you need to devote to your growing company.

In addition, since the Trucking Factoring company evaluates the credit quality of your customers prior to purchasing the accounts receivable you gain valuable information into which customers are likely to pay and which ones are not so likely to pay. While a Trucking Factoring company is not the only way for your business to obtain the money it needs to keep growing, it does offer a type of financing well worth considering.
